One Leader Jersey of the Tour of Thüringen in the Design of Gotha adelt
For the second time running, in the International Ladies' Tour of Thüringen, riders of less than 23 years of age will be competing for the Purple Gotha adelt Under-23 Leader Jersey. The former princely residence of Gotha markets itself under this slogan, literally meaning “Gotha Ennobles”, and will be present in everybody's mind throughout the Tour as one of the Jersey Sponsors, not only at Gotha, but also at Erfurt, Altenburg, Zeulenroda, Greiz, Schleiz, and Gera. It will be handed out for the first time after the kick-off stage Around Gotha, of just short of 70 km, then travel throughout the Republic of Thüringen.
The funding for this jersey and classification is raised by the Stadtwirtschaft Gotha GmbH, Gotha's city-owned company in charge of municipal affairs, stepping in as the Jersey Sponsor. “The purple-and-gold, a true princely, design of the jersey and the multiple opportunities for marketing and advertisement in the course of the Tour of Thüringen come together under our umbrella brand, Gotha adelt, in order to make our beautiful city known throughout the region and beyond,” General Manager, Rainer Zipfel explained in the inaugural last year. And Christoph Gösel, General Manager of KulTourStadt Gotha GmbH, Gotha's city-owned company in charge of cultural action, played that ball on with excitement, “Our commitment to being a stage host is meant to portray Gotha as an important place of sports, culture, and business unto this high-end sports event organization. This message literally rolls through the land now thanks to the partnership and cooperation we've set up with our municipality.” In 2016, then, the encore is on the agenda.
The classification showcasing successful young riders has existed almost from the very inception of the “Rundfahrt” in the 1980s. The winner tableau shows big names, such as multiple-times cyclocross and road racing World Champion, Marianne Vos (Netherlands), the former individual time trial World Champion, Lisa Brennauer (Germany), and the former points race World Champion, Stephanie Pohl (Germany). Today's Tour Director, Vera Hohlfeld knows the feeling of wearing the Best Young Rider Jersey on Thüringen's roads, although years have gone by, and she is happy that this completely newly designed Leader Jersey will feature in the Tour. “I am really excited about this idea of a presentation of Gotha in a really sportsmanlike way. We want our Tour also to be a showroom for Thüringen and Germany, and one thing is certain: this purple-and-gold will catch the eye.
